विदुर उवाच महाराज विजानीहि यत्त्वां वक्ष्यामि तच्छृणु मुमूर्षोरौषधमिव न रोचेतापि ते श्रुतम्
Vidūra said: "O great king! Listen to what I am going to tell you and learn, even though a dying man finds no pleasure in medicine.
विदुर ने कहा: "हे महान राजा! जो मैं तुम्हें बताने जा रहा हूं उसे सुनो और सीखो, भले ही एक मरते हुए व्यक्ति को चिकित्सा में कोई आनंद नहीं मिलता है।
In earlier times, when the evil-minded Duryodhana, the destroyer of the Bhārata lineage, was born, he cried out in the voice of a jackal. He is destined to cause our destruction.
पूर्वकाल में जब भरतवंश का नाश करने वाला दुष्टबुद्धि दुर्योधन पैदा हुआ तो वह गीदड़ की आवाज में चिल्लाया। वह हमारे विनाश का कारण बनने के लिए नियत है।
A jackal lives in your house in Duryodhana's form and you do not know this. From me, listen to what Kāvya said.
आपके घर में एक सियार दुर्योधन का रूप धारण करके रहता है और आप यह नहीं जानते। काव्या ने क्या कहा वो मेरी तरफ से सुनो.
"The collector of honey obtains the honey, but does not know about the fall. Having climbed, he will later be immersed, or fall down and perish."
"शहद इकट्ठा करने वाला शहद तो प्राप्त कर लेता है, लेकिन गिरने का उसे पता नहीं चलता। चढ़ने के बाद वह बाद में डूब जाएगा, या गिरकर नष्ट हो जाएगा।"
Like the collector of honey, he is drunk at the prospect of gambling with dice. He does not know of the fall, consequent to the enmity with these mahāratha-s.
शहद इकट्ठा करने वाले की तरह, वह पासों से जुआ खेलने की संभावना से नशे में है। वह इन महारथियों से शत्रुता के परिणामस्वरूप होने वाले पतन के बारे में नहीं जानता।

विदितं ते महाराज राजस्वेवासमञ्जसम् अन्धका यादवा भोजाः समेताः कंसमत्यजन्
O great king! You know the normal royal practice. The Andhaka-s, Yādava-s and Bhojā-s assembled and abandoned Kaṃsa.
हे महान राजा! आप सामान्य शाही प्रथा को जानते हैं। अंधक, यादव और भोज इकट्ठे हुए और कंस को छोड़ दिया।

नियोगाच्च हते तस्मिन्कृष्णेनामित्रघातिना एवं ते ज्ञातयः सर्वे मोदमानाः शतं समाः
At their request, Kṛṣṇā, the slayer of enemies, killed him and all the relatives rejoiced for a hundred years.
उनके अनुरोध पर, शत्रुओं के संहारक कृष्ण ने उसे मार डाला और सभी रिश्तेदारों ने सौ वर्षों तक आनंद मनाया।
On your instructions, let Savyasachi oppress Suyodhana. Let the Kuru-s be happy through the oppression of the evil one.
आपके आदेश पर सव्यसाची सुयोधन पर अत्याचार करें। दुष्टों के अत्याचार से कुरु लोग प्रसन्न रहें।

काकेनेमांश्चित्रबर्हाञ्शार्दूलान्क्रोष्टुकेन च क्रीणीष्व पाण्डवान्राजन्मा मज्जीः शोकसागरे
O king! Purchase peacocks for this crow. Purchase tigers for this jackal. Purchase the Pāṇḍava-s and do not sink into this ocean of grief.
हे राजा! इस कौवे के लिए मोर खरीदो। इस सियार के लिए बाघ खरीदो। पांडवों को खरीदो और दुःख के इस सागर में मत डूबो।
For the sake of a family, a man should be sacrificed. For the sake of a village, a family should be sacrificed. For the sake of a country, a village should be sacrificed. For the sake of the soul, the earth should be sacrificed.
एक परिवार की खातिर एक आदमी का बलिदान दिया जाना चाहिए। एक गांव के लिए एक परिवार का बलिदान हो जाना चाहिए. एक देश की खातिर, एक गाँव का बलिदान होना चाहिए। आत्मा के लिए पृथ्वी का त्याग करना चाहिए।
Thus spoke Kāvya, the omniscient one, knowledgeable in all sentiments and terrible to all enemies, when he asked the great āsura-s to abandon Jamba.
सर्वज्ञ, सभी भावनाओं के ज्ञाता और सभी शत्रुओं से डरने वाले काव्य ने इस प्रकार कहा, जब उन्होंने महान असुरों से जांबा को त्यागने के लिए कहा।
O king! It is said that there were forest-dwelling birds that vomited gold. A man took them to live in his house, but then killed them out of greed.
हे राजा! ऐसा कहा जाता है कि जंगल में रहने वाले पक्षी सोने की उल्टी करते थे। एक आदमी उन्हें अपने घर में रहने के लिए ले गया, लेकिन फिर लालच के कारण उन्हें मार डाला।

सदोपभोज्याँल्लोभान्धो हिरण्यार्थे परंतप आयतिं च तदात्वं च उभे सद्यो व्यनाशयत्
O scorcher of enemies! He was blinded because of his temptation for gold. Because of his greed, he destroyed both what he had and what he could have had.
हे शत्रुओं को भस्म करने वाले! सोने के लालच में वह अंधा हो गया था। अपने लालच के कारण, उसके पास जो कुछ था और जो हो सकता था, दोनों को उसने नष्ट कर दिया।
O bull among the Bhārata-s! Do not oppress the Pāṇḍava-s because of your immediate desire. You will later rue your delusion, like the man who killed the birds.
हे भरतवंशियों में से बैल! अपनी तात्कालिक इच्छा के कारण पांडवों पर अत्याचार मत करो। आपको बाद में अपने भ्रम पर पछतावा होगा, उस आदमी की तरह जिसने पक्षियों को मार डाला।

जातं जातं पाण्डवेभ्यः पुष्पमादत्स्व भारत मालाकार इवारामे स्नेहं कुर्वन्पुनः पुनः
O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Like a maker of garlands, take flowers affectionately from the Pāṇḍava-s one by one, as they flower.
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! माला बनाने वाले की भाँति, पुष्प खिलते ही पाण्डवों से एक-एक करके प्रेमपूर्वक फूल ले लो।
Like a maker of charcoal, do not burn down the roots of the tree. Do not go to your destruction with your sons, advisers and troops.
लकड़ी का कोयला बनाने वाले की तरह, पेड़ की जड़ों को मत जलाओ। अपने पुत्रों, सलाहकारों और सैनिकों को लेकर अपने विनाश के लिये मत जाओ।
O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Who is capable of fighting with the Pārtha-s when they stand together? O king! Not even the lord of the Marut-s, together with the Marut-s."
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! पार्थों के एक साथ खड़े होने पर उनसे युद्ध करने में कौन सक्षम है? हे राजा! यहाँ तक कि मरुतों के स्वामी भी, मरुतों सहित नहीं।”
